Agra to Jaipur

Three riding days from Agra to Jaipur - Wednesday January 30 just under 60 km, a short day to Bharaptur, first the hectic city traffic, then a good, quiet two-lane road through the countryside. Thursday was a bit over 110 km to Kalakho, mostly on a four-lane divided highway, then just over 90 km on Friday to Jaipur

Our accommodations so far have been very good as has the food.
Wednesday night's room at the Birder Inn in Baraptur
The name of the hotel is appropriate as it is right beside a national wildlife refuge that is winter home to large numbers of migratory species. We spent the afternoon there - I'll post bird photos photos in a later post.
Thursday night - the Umaid Lake Palace - lots of white marble here
They got a lot of us dressed up that evening

Friday-Saturday - the Suryaa Villa in Jaipur
Outside villages, the highways have been good to travel. Villages are something else. The photo below really doesn't convey the chaos and noise that is everyday here.
Fruit and vegetables are along the road in all these villages... so are marauding cows.
Women are colourfully dressed everywhere, even when we see them out working in the fields...
...and this lady walked by our lunch stop on Friday.
Traffic along the road is a mix of just about everything you can imagine.

In one area, it was all house temples and various other stone (a lot of red sandstone) products

More cow patties drying beside the road... so is some laundry hanging over the guard rail near the lady.
A colourful wedding jeep on Wednesday's two-lane road - nobody around - waiting for parts - not an uncommon sight to see disabled vehicles being worked on on the roadway.
The unfortunate part of the 'scenery' is the garbage - it is unfortunately everywhere, everywhere!
Maybe there's hope though...
Thursday near the hotel is this step well that dates back about 500 years. It fills in the wet season then progressively goes down.
It was originally symmetric on all four sides, but the bath house was added later.
Colourful Hindu temple along the highway.
Friday's ride into Jaipur took us off the highway and onto some really really rough roads, but good fun..

...and colourful tractors...
...and finally into Jaipur.

I am loving the journey!! Especially since you get to do all the hard work of cycling, and I just get to sit in my chair and look at the pictures!! xxxx
